Peace Over Violence #FRCdenimday2020

In honor of Denim Day, FRC will be outreaching and asking students to participate in peace over violence - the Denim Day Campaign mission - in honor of sexual violence awareness.

History: The original campaign was started because of a ruling in the Italian Supreme Court after a rape conviction was overturned. The justice felt that since the victim was wearing tight denim jeans, she must have had to help her rapist remove her jeans, thus giving consent to the act. The following day, the female employees in the Italian parliament came to work wearing denim jeans to show solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day Campaign in response to the case and activism surrounding it since. Now Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against invasive and destructive attitude about sexual assault. In this rape prevention education campaign, we are asking FRC community members, staff, and faculty to make their social statement with their fashion by wearing denim on Denim Day as a visual means to protest against the misconceptions around sexual assault.

On Wednesday April 29th, 2020, stand with the World and FRC and post your Denim Day photo!
